How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Select your PDF file.
  2. Choose the position — bottom centre, bottom right or top centre.
  3. Set the number to start from (usually 1).
  4. Click "Add Page Numbers" and download the numbered file.

Why number your pages

Page numbers make long documents easy to navigate, cite and reference. Reports, ebooks, contracts and theses all benefit — readers can jump to a specific page, and printed copies stay in order when dropped.

Starting from a custom number

If your PDF continues an earlier document, start the numbering from a higher value. For example, begin at 11 if the first ten pages are elsewhere, so the printed set reads continuously.

Numbering position

Pick the position that suits your layout. Bottom centre works for most documents; bottom right suits formal reports; top centre suits presentations and slides.
