How to split a PDF
- Click "Choose a PDF file" and select the document you want to split.
- Click "Split PDF" and wait a moment while your browser separates the pages.
- A download button appears for every page in the document.
- Click each button to save that page as its own PDF file.
How splitting works
The tool opens your document, counts its pages, and creates a brand-new single-page PDF for each one. Every page keeps its original content, images and formatting. The pdf-lib library performs the whole operation inside your browser, so a confidential contract or statement is never transmitted anywhere.
When to split a PDF
Splitting is useful when you need just one page from a long document, when each page must be filed separately, or when you want to email a single page without sending the rest. It also pairs naturally with our Merge PDF tool — split a file into pieces, keep the pages you need, then merge them back into a smaller document.
Downloading many pages
Each page gets its own download button, named in order so you can keep track. Most browsers let you save them one after another to the same folder. If your document has a very large number of pages, the page list simply grows — there is no fixed cap.
A note on output quality
Pages are copied without re-compression, so text stays sharp and images keep their original resolution. The resulting single-page files are usually only slightly larger than the equivalent portion of the original document.
Splitting for review and filing
When a long PDF must be shared selectively, splitting lets you hand out only the relevant page without exposing the rest. It is also the fastest way to pull a single form, certificate or invoice out of a bundle for printing or upload. Because each page becomes a standard PDF, the extracted files open in any reader and can be renamed, forwarded or merged again without extra conversion steps.
