How to use the AI background remover

How the tool works
This tool uses MediaPipe's selfie segmentation model, a lightweight neural network that runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. When you choose a photo, the image is drawn to a canvas and passed to the model, which predicts a mask that separates the main subject from the background. That mask is then applied to the original image so only the foreground remains, and the result is exported as a transparent PNG.
Because everything happens on your device, your photos are never uploaded, stored or read by anyone else. There is no signup and no server round-trip, which also makes the tool fast on repeat uses.
Tips for the best results
The segmentation model is trained to find people, so it works best on photos with a clear human subject. For the cleanest cutout, use a photo where the subject is well lit and stands out from the background. Busy or low-contrast backgrounds can leave rough edges, so choosing an image with an obvious foreground improves the result. The model can also handle pets and objects, but accuracy is highest for people.
When to remove a background
A transparent PNG is useful in many places. Product sellers use cutouts for clean e-commerce listings. Content creators remove backgrounds for thumbnails, profile pictures and social posts. Designers drop cutouts onto new backgrounds, and anyone building a presentation can place a photo on a slide without the distracting original backdrop.
